IT'S AN ANTI-KARLSSON CONSPIRACY Thanks for explaining bry. It's funny how people love to hate this guy. He's proving this year, in the regular season, and especially in the playoffs, he is BY FAR THEE BEST defenceman EV-ER (next to Bobby Orr) Even the Boston media are comparing him to Orr. 1) Orr 2) Lidstrom 3) Karlsson imo anyways and that's ever. like I said above, Orr is strictly a points based award now. No voting, no arguments, just like the art ross, a scoring title for D. karlsson should win it 6-8 times in the next 10, relax haha. Pump the breaks, all will be right in the hockey world next year I am sure. karlsson is my favourite player, I'd love to stack the awards in his favour. Last year people complained the Norris and Orr were just two of the same award, suggesting for us to do exactly what we did in the shout box and now they are complaining that we listened to them haha. I screen shotted all the comments so I wouldn't forget and am tempted to post them all in here because most of the people that were complaining then are the same ones complaining now haha. edit. Only quoted dave for the Karlsson 2nd best ever comment, rest direct at the others!

Coffey and Bourque belong in that conversation, 11th and 13th all time in points including forwards and much higher points per game admittedly in a much higher scoring era.

Those are my 5 and 6 respectively. Although I never got a chance to see him, Doug Harvey was considered the best at his position for over a decade, he comes in at 4 and bourque at 5, to round out my personal top 5. Always hard to compare guys from different times but I love those debates.

Doug Harvey won 7 Norris trophies in an 8 year period and was considered to be by far the most dominant Dman of a generation. I never saw him play but people of older generations consider him 2nd to only Bobby.
Larry was a hall of famer but isn't top 10 imo. My entire family except for me and my grandfather are Habs fans, I've heard the tales of Larry but they aren't close to that of Harvey.
Karlsson is just about to turn 27 and will already win his 3rd Norris trophy. Scotty bowman, in an interview on CBC, called Karlsson the 2nd best Dman he's ever seen play and he's seen everyone mentioned here play. You can disagree for sure but to laugh it off isn't right either.
I remember my buddy saying ovi was one of the best goal scorers of all time after he only played 3-4 years. I laughed him off at the time but realize now, he was right. Just because he hadn't accumulated a careers worth of stats yet, didn't mean he wasn't one of the best goal scorers of all time. If you say Mcdavid is one of the all time greats, you wouldn't be wrong, despite having only played 2 years, the same can be said for Karlsson. I try to watch as much of Mcdavid and Karlsson as I can because I realize how rare players like them are!
Welcome to the league Dave. Don't know who you are but here for 15 mins and already creating the best hockey talk of the off-season! Nice work.

Lidstrom is the best defender I ever saw play and it really wasn't that close. Coffey and Bourque were both great in their own right and I am a huge Coffey fan. Karlsson is the best of his generation no question and deserves a place in the top 5 defenders of all time before he is done playing.

If Dave was in fact born in 59, I'd like to hear his thoughts on Karlsson vs. Potvin/Robinson/Harvey

He would have been too young for Harvey. Here is the top 100 ranked by the hockey news, its opinion but theirs count more than ours haha. Has forwards and goalies too but you can figure the order out. www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/ken-campbell-ranks-the-top-100-nhl-players-of-all-timeExcluded any guy not in top 100 but other than Karlsson, don't think anyone deserves to be in the convo. the Jagr thing throws me off, but if weren't just looking up D, it's a better opinion than ours.

Stopped reading after Jagr 2 and Beliveau 3 and Lemieux 7
