The award isn't "best FA find" though, it's "most impactful FA" and it's tough to say any of Grabner, Gagner, or Eaves was as impactful as Zaitsev or Radulov. If people prefer best find option we can adjust in the future, but this season the award is for most impact, and in that case Zaitsev and Radulov are clearly a tier above. That isn't best find at all. Simply looking at stats in our regular season, I'd rather Grabner and Eaves over Radulov, not only becuase production was virtually the same, bonus for Grabner SH toi, minus for 0 PPP. But give me either of those guys at 1.65M for grabner and 1M for eaves over Radulovs 5.75M. the added cap space for similar production is impactful as well. I'll eat crow if Radulov or Zaitsev win this vote, but I don't see it. if you broadcast it on periscope I might have to change my vote

He's younger, plays a tougher position to get, had better stats, and was traded for a package that holds far more value than any of those guys.

I have no problem with Zaitsev, more difficult to compare F to D anyway. I think with the hype around Zaitsev coming in and the fact that he was expected to be a valuable asset, to me anyway, diminishes his impact. where the others saw increased impact due to their recent history or being relatively irrelevant.

Here is something to consider though, this is a keeper league, so future impact of that player has to be considered too. I personally do not see either Eaves or Grabner repeating their seasons. Eaves had scored 20G once before, in 2005-06 and Grabner had done it twice, in 10-11 and 11-12. Both are great stories of sticking with it and pieces contenders would want for this year but I don't see their futures as being all that impactful. A return to previous form is far more likely imo. So even if the gap in production didn't quite justify the added cap, although I would argue it does, who was the best piece added to a club through free agency last year? Well I pick Zaitsev and Radulov one and two.
Just because it hadn't been listed, FT score throughout our Regular Season. first team stats doesn't quite paint the whole picture.
Zaitzev: 126th ranked skater at 2569 Radulov: 137th ranked skater at 2519 Eaves: Tied for 162nd ranked skater at 2434 Grabner: 172nd ranked skater at 2410 Gagner: 211th ranked skater at 2256
Personally, I think we probably dropped the ball and should have had eaves over grabner. Other than that, I actually quite like our nominations. Just my opinion anyway, loving the hockey talk these are creating.

I don't think future impact should matter in a deal for a single season. Who cares what they do next year, 2 years from now?

Probably why we disagree then. I think "the greatest positive contribution to his organization" includes potential future production and trade value as well. Then again, Zaitzev and Radulov were 1-2 in FT scores, so it could also be argued on stats alone, they deserve to be there.
edit* this is also why Tim asked for everyone to nominate someone from their team because a three man panel can miss people. No one wanted to do that, so I'm sure the Eaves omission will be the first of a few haha.

I think your rants are moronic and immature, so I chirp you but I don't know you personally so I don't hate you or have it out for you. who owns a player had nothing to with any award other than the Hart. Can't have a guy like Burns nominated for a Hart when he played for 3 teams, 2 of which missed the playoffs. Other than that, who owns a player never came up.

Grabner. Mostly because nobody wanted him and production was not expected while everyone else loaded up all their lotto balls on Radulov and Zaitsev. Agreed. Not that surprising the other 2 did well, Grabner was the real steal of this group. This is the reason I voted for Grabner as well. This type of production was unexpected and pretty damn amazing.

Between lotto balls and traded assets I paid a lot for Radulov and Zaitzev. Both full of question marks and exceeded my expectations. High value long term pieces. Zaitzev the bigger surprise, bigger impact, and bigger cost (and benefit). Grabber is nice and a surprise but no one is paying for him.
