Went with Matthews. I think the FOW make up for the edge Laine has in scoring

Laine for me. Although, like real life, I expect the Toronto factor to win it for Matthews! Really any of Murray, Laine, Matthews, Marner and Werenski would win this award in a normal year. best year for rookies probably ever.

Matthews. Not really even a debate for me. While Laine has posted similar numbers I had to consider their linemates.

I considered linemates but felt the fact that during our regular season during, him leading the nhl in % of own teams goals, despite playing 8 games less than his teammates, well that just doesn't happen. In fact, the last rookie to do that, was Alexander Ovechkin and before him, Teemu Selanne. Now, Laine has tailed of in real life and has since fallen out of first in that category but he finished there in our season. That's super impressive to me.
Again though, everyone on this list is a good choice.

Laine. Matthews loses points for being a leaf.

Zaitzev a HUGE rookie in our league... hits, bs, shtoi, and wicked points by a Dman.
Laine's linemates are both currently superior players to him and have more points. He's super impressive but his impact is that of a finisher(elite).
Matthews played all season with other rookies, always Hyman and then a Brown/Nylander rotation. All good players, none close to Schiefle & Wheeler ( currently).
But actually ADHL impact should be primary variable for rookies, and Murray powered DJ to many victories. Has my vote.

Honestly Matthews carries more ADHL value than Laine with those FOW and SOG, but Murray had the most impact for his team simply because of his position.

Matthews for me can't wait to see him with some better line mates.
Great class of rookies this year
