The Nintendo Dream Team of the Year is awarded annually to the General Manager who began the season with great optimism and potential but who's team failed to live up to its hefty expectations. The 2015-16 winner was the Buffalo Sabres. The 2016-17 nominees are:
Buffalo Sabres: Last year's winner of this award, Buffalo and GM Kimmer came back this year with playoff expectations after re-building the roster. Considered by most to be a team in that 10-15 range, Buffalo fell short of the playoffs once again despite all of Kimmer's talk.
Calgary Flames: Sure they had cap issues, but the defending ADHL Cup champs certainly had higher expectations than missing the playoffs and even missing GP(!!!).
St. Louis Blues: Maybe this was a victim of circumstance as injuries decimated this roster early, but STL was expected to be a legit contender in the West and instead failed to make the playoffs. Matt has never been the type to pump his own tires, but expectations were surely higher in the gateway city.

Calgary for me. Defending champs to missing GP. Surreal, even with the cap issues.

I had low expectations for Kimmer given the strength of the eastern conference. Imo, he needed everything to go right and then some to make the playoffs. Finishing right where you were expected doesn't constitute disappointment to me.
Calgary while disappointing going from champ to out of the playoffs, was not entirely unexpected. Calgary was definitely faced with many tough decisions following the end of their cup run given their cap situation. After a few trades that made them significantly weaker I expected them to take a huge step back. Fairly disappointing season sure but not the most disappointing.
St. Louis is my choice. Generally considered to be one of the top teams in the west I as others had relatively high expectations for St. Louis. To not only miss the playoffs, but also never be a threat to ever make a playoff run from week 1 with expectations riding high? Easy choice for me.

STL for me, the other two weren't really expected to be contenders at season's beginning

Can I vote for myself? haha
What a disastrous season that was made worse by having to trade Berglund and Daley for peanuts. Thankfully I am in the BBKL finals so my entire fantasy year wasn't a disappointment.
