The Darryl Sutter Award is an annual award given to the General Manager judged to have made the best Free Agent or Waiver pickup during the ADHL regular season; a real treasure hunter among the discarded trash heap; Your 2015/16 nominees are... Grogers (Los Angeles Kings) - Karri Ramo (October 25th 2015) It was a initially thought to be a move with little flare or substance, General Manager Koomz, the losing party in this claim thought it was "pointless", after all, at the time, Karri Ramo was in the AHL and had a multi-million dollar contract. But Grogers like he usually does, thought differently. Within a very short time, Jonas Hiller, the Flames starting goalie at the time became injured and Ramo was recalled; until an injury late in the season, he never gave up his starting job. The shrewd move would pay dividends for the Kings, as Ramo would eventually fetch a "King's Ransom". No other team made a claim. Brad (Colorado Avalanche) - Richard Panik (November 5th, 2015) Desperate for forwards to play in their lineup, the Colorado Avalanche took a flyer on Richard Panik of the Florida Panthers early in the season, the move had a slow burn, and it wouldn't be until later in the season that Panik would eventually pay-off--but Brad was willing to wait. Panik's lowkey style of play, and considerably lowcost contract made Panik a bargain during the months of February and March, and he played a key role in the Avalanche's bottom-six during the team's quest for a playoff berth. Geoff (New York Islanders) - Tanner Glass (October 30th, 2015) He wasn't a Kelowna Rocket, but Tanner Glass became an integral part of the New Your Islanders forward group as soon as he was claimed off of waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes. Glass' appearance on the waiver wire was a bit of a surprise, given his early season success, but it was only Geoff and Assistant General Manager LaShawn (the Brooklyn youth that helps Geoff with day to day operations) that would take the gamble on the aging blue collar veteran. Glass would eventually lead the Islanders in hits (172), and come in 5th in PIMS (42) not bad for only playing 44 games. Did the ADHL make the right decision? Should someone else have been nominated? Voice your opinions and comments below! The ADHL will be releasing Award Nominees periodically throughout the week, so check back often.

There were a couple of other good adds throughout the season, (Upshall to Detroit, Scrivens to Torornto, Zubrus to me!) but at the end of the day I think two of these claims had a huge effect on their team (Glass and Ramo), and for me the stats are really telling, but the the sheer fact Grogs picked up a worthless piece and within a few weeks it became a starting goalie, one of the more valuable assets in the entire league, was a little bit lucky, but it also makes it the best claim in my opinion. Considering how many pieces of crap he claimed, I shouldn't be surprised though, what's the old saying, a broken clock is right twice a day?

Ramo to LA probably ended up having the most value because he turned it into a pile of late picks and a prospect. Glass has been active the entire second half of the season for a playoff team, though, and is a good periph contributor.

I couldn't find it in search, but I do remember it was quite the haul.

Ramo for Timashov + 5th + 5th + 6th + 6th + 7th
It doesn't show up on the search, Grogers must've misspelled Ramo lol. It's on the FT transaction history though.

I cannot find it either... not the only thread that I've had trouble finding.
Goalie hoarding, injuries, send downs, whatever, it's not a fun component of this league and just like other leagues I'll always do my part in minimizing the impact on other GMs.
Although...once burned you'd think I'd switch the approach and maximize always!!!!! but that would just kill this place if everyone wanted blood every single time.

I chose panik. He is still young cheap and an RFA pretty good to be able to pick up a player you can keep for years for free.
