The Vezina Trophy is an annual award given to the goalkeeper adjudged to be the best at this position as voted by the general managers of all NHL clubs. Your 2015/16 nominees are...
TSN PIERRE MCGUIRE'S TAKE ON THE NOMINEES:
Braden Holtby - Washington Capitals: "Gino, I know everything there is to know about one, Braden Holtby from Lloydminster Alberta, what's there to say? The kids a monster. He was a monster when he played for the Saskatoon Blades, he was a monster for head coach Spencer Carbery in the ECHL playing for the South Carolina Stingrays, go Rays! and he's a monster playing for Chuck Norris in the ADHL. The kid can flat out stop a puck, no doubt about it."
Ben Bishop - Tampa Bay Lightning: "When I coached for the National Hockey League Whalers Gino, I had a big boy like Ben Bishop playing for me, you mighta heard of him Gino, does one Mr. Sean Burke from Windsor Ontario, home of the Windsor Spitfire, the team Taylor Hall used to play for...ring a bell? You better believe it Gino! Burkey was a monster for us in Hartford where I coached and we rode him for an outstanding 17 wins. And his teammate Jeff O'Neil was an absolute class act and he was a big boy too, but not as big as the guy they got playing between the pipes out in Tampa."
Corey Crawford - Calgary Flames: "Corey Crawford is a perennial winner, Gino, all he did for his Bantam team the Montreal Le Oxen was win, win and, oh yeah Gino, Win! I remember scouting him back in the day and telling people, this kid is going to be special, probably be an ADHL Vezina nominee, a course no one believed me Gino, but let me tell you what I was thinking, 10 wins in Bantam, a .936 save percentage, and the kid could play goalie and defense and believe you me he wouldn't be sucking no dirty pond water after double shifting the crease and blueline 'cause the kid was a monster even back then in ol' Mon'real. We ended up drafting a kid named Justin Ogilvy instead out of beautiful Cranbook British Columbia, home of the Cranbrook Crunch where my old coach Louie Depres used to hail from."
Did the ADHL make the right decision? Should someone else have been nominated? Voice your opinions and comments below! The ADHL will be releasing Award Nominees periodically throughout the week, so check back often.
