The Mile Milbury Trophy is an annual award given to the General Manager adjudged to have made the worst trade for their organization; It's basically a who made the shittiest trade award. Your 2015/16 nominees are...
Tim - Carolina Hurricanes: Tim was one of the most active general managers on the trade front all season, some good, some bad, and unfortunately his unrelenting tinker put him in an unfortunate franchise position where he felt compelled to trade the face of his franchise; and he did it for what many in the league describe as a song (read: a type of sexual assault usually involving sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration perpetrated against a person without that person's consent).
To Carolina:
Mark Borowiecki
Jean-Gabriel Pageau
2016 3rd round pick (WPG)
2016 5th round pick (OTT)
To Ottawa:
John Tavares
Tanner Richard
Alan Quine
2016 7th round pick (CAR)
Koomz - Chicago Blackhawks: Koomz made a name for himself early on as a very strong trader, but it would be his quest to solidify his goaltending position while increasing his long term assets that would ultimately be a black mark on an otherwise impressive resume. Koomz would trade away Vezina candidate Corey Crawford and the Chicago system for the Calgary system and two late round picks. Those 2 late round picks will forever haunt Koomz, as his team performed very well after that deal, except in net, and Chicago never quite managed to have good goaltending, especially after the trade deadline - and it seems to have been his undoing late in the season in the playoffs against Winnipeg.
To Calgary:
Corey Crawford
Scott Darling
Mac Carruth
Michael Leighton
Anders Nilsson
Ivan Nalimov
Matt Tomkins
To Chicago:
Jonas Hiller
Karri Ramo
Joni Ortio
Mason McDonald
Jon Gillies
Brad Thiessen
Austin Carroll
2017 4th (CGY)
2016 6th (CGY)
Gabe (The first Gabe, not the Minnesota owner) - Nashville Predators & Geoff - New York Islanders: Interestingly enough, 2/3 nominees were in some shape or another part of a larger threeway deal. This particular deal saw two organizations set up the Tampa Lightning for supremacy. While Gabe didn't do poorly, he certainly felt the burn from this trade (quickly retiring from the league citing he was out of his depth), and Geoff (and his A-team of under privileged Brooklyn youth who assist him in trades) clearly overpaid to get the top Kelowna Rocket of all time who was clearly not as strong as the Islanders would have hoped; in fact his official statement after the deal was, "I got raped to get Weber". The league thought differently of Geoff and his obsession with Rocket players after that deal.
To Nashville:
Victor Hedman
Andre Burakovsky
Adam Erne
To New York:
Shea Weber
Tomas Jurco
Gave up: Johnny Boychuk, Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo, 2016 1st (NYI), 2017 2nd (NYI)
To Tampa Bay:
Johnny Boychuk
Frans Nielsen
Kyle Okposo
2016 1st (NYI)
2017 2nd (NYI)
